Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spent 6 months at Barcelona and decided to leave the club to join Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
The Blues’ signing of Aubameyang was one of the last-minute moves of the summer transfer window and one that caused great anticipation.
Auba showed his best football when he was under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, and it was hoped that working together again at Chelsea would give the Gabonese striker a chance to shine again.
But Tuchel’s abrupt departure from the Chelsea bench leaves Auba full of uncertainty.
“We had good times in Dortmund; I am very happy to play for him again,” Aubameyang said upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
But Tuchel will no longer sit on the Chelsea bench, and Aubameyang is left in a situation where he doesn’t know what plans there are with him. The player is now forced to remain in an awkward situation and will probably regret leaving Xavi Hernández and Barça.
Aubameyang has been in decline for the past two years. He was stripped of the captain’s band at Arsenal and lost the trust of manager Mikel Arteta who isolated him from the team until his departure from the club was negotiated in January this year.
With the departure of Tuchel from Chelsea, Aubameyang has lost his endorsement and, with him, the hopes and security of knowing if he counts for a project that is beginning to crumble after a multimillion-dollar investment during the summer market.
Aubameyang made his debut in the Chelsea shirt in the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb, a match that would be the end for Tuchel.
In the defeat against Zagreb, the Blues showed a poor offense with only three clear scoring chances in the entire match and with an Auba that did not contribute anything.
