Manchester City seeks to secure the services of its best players; for this reason, it has renegotiated some contracts to guarantee its young stars better conditions.
Such is the case of the 22-year-old English winger Phil Foden, who has ceased to be a promise to become a high-level player and one of the fundamental pieces of the club.
According to the Daily Mail, the Stockport player will continue to be linked to the club until 2028 and earn 225,000 pounds a week, thus becoming one of the club’s highest-paid players. The official announcement of the renewal is expected to be in the coming days or early next week.
This new deal is a massive leap for the player from the £30,000-a-week contract he signed in 2018 and confirms the club’s confidence in its star youth squad.
For the second time, Foden won the award for the best young player in the Premier League last season after scoring nine goals and distributing five assists. In the Champions League, he played eleven games and managed to score 3 goals and distribute 2 assists.
Foden carries Manchester City in his DNA; when he was only 8 years old, he started playing in the club’s youth academy. On November 21, 2017, he made his official debut with the ‘Citizens’ in a Champions League match against Feyenoord, thus becoming the fourth youngest English footballer to debut in the top European competition.
“Phil Foden is the most talented player I have seen in my career as a footballer and manager,” Pep Guardiola said.
In just four seasons, he has already played more than 160 games, he became the youngest player in history to win the Premier League, and he has already accumulated 4 titles in that League, in addition to an FA Cup, 4 League Cups, 2 Community Shield and started in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League final, in which his team lost to Chelsea.
