Not many teams can win a Champions League match by a score of 5-0.
But Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City did it in their game against Sporting CP for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
The Citizens managed to crush their Portuguese rival completely. However, Guardiola was not satisfied with what he saw on the pitch.
“Don’t get me wrong. I’m more than delighted,” Guardiola assured after the victory, adding, “I know how difficult this competition is. The 0-5 is fantastic. Today we were very effective. The goals came constantly, and when that happens, it is difficult for the rival. But we were not good in our construction.
“We defended well and got an incredible result. But we have a duty as a coach and as a team to analyze exactly how we play individually and collectively. Not just the result.
“It’s a dream result, but we can do better. We concede few goals not only in the Champions League, but also in the Premier League. We concede very few shots on goal in each game. This is important. We have to take care of the few chances they had. But I say the same, we are not a team that defends well”, explained Pep.
“If you analyze us individually, we are not defenders. We are an offensive team in most areas of the field. We have to defend ourselves with the ball. We have to take care of that better than we did today.”
Pep’s statements about the team performance show his commitment to excellence and that he is a coach with a high level of demand from his players.
