Phil Foden is one of the great young talents in the Premier League today. The England international has quickly established himself as one of the most important players at Manchester City, and he’s already made a name for himself due to his leadership on the pitch. With an eye for goal, excellent technical ability, and vision, Foden has been able to shine for both club and country. He has also shown maturity beyond his years when it comes to decision-making in critical moments of games.
But since he returned from participating in the World Cup, he has only had a few minutes on the field.
In fact, throughout the season, he has barely made 30 appearances in all competitions, and since the aforementioned World Cup he has yet to complete 90 on the pitch.
An ankle injury kept him off the pitch in January when he lost three league games in a row to recover. But since his recovery, he has not had the same role.
Many suggest that Pep Guardiola has lost confidence in the young Englishman as he struggles to regain his form.
But the boos of the citizens has come out to defend and clarify the rumors.
“He made an incredible effort, playing with pain, and arrived at a moment when he said, ‘Pep, I cannot any more’, so he had to rest,” Guardiola said and added,
“We gave him a week or two off, and after that Riyad Mahrez was in his best time of the season and Jack Grealish made a step forward.
“If you are saying that I don’t trust Phil, forget about it.
“Phil is our diamond. He needs to be himself. I saw other players better than him at times after the World Cup.”
