Patrick Roberts is keen to show what he can do in the Premier League after joining Norwich City on loan for the season. The winger spent last season in Spain with Girona on loan from Manchester City after three temporary years at Celtic, where he won three Scottish Premiership titles.
Roberts is well aware playing for the Canaries will provide different challenges to his experiences at Celtic and hopes to make a big impact at Carrow Road. “It’s a completely different task but still the same mentality, to keep working hard and do the same things,” Roberts told the EDP.
“Up there [Celtic] it’s a bit different, obviously there are teams who will sit back and you have more attacking, so you can get frustrated when you can’t score. “But here you have to be patient and not rush it, not be naive or daft, wait for your time on the counter-attacks, carry on playing the way Norwich did all last season, carry that through.
“If we can do that then I’m sure it can be a good season and the manager [Daniel Farke] will instil that every day in training.” Norwich face a battle to avoid the drop after winning promotion last season and 22-year-old Roberts knows survival is the priority going into the new campaign.
He added: “I just love what I do, love playing football, so as long as I get the opportunity to play and show what I can do – especially for this team – is all I can ask.
“I’m sure the other lads, the other young lads as well, will have the same mentality, to show that they can compete in the Premier League. If you can do that, you can stay there for a while and obviously that’s the aim for Norwich, to stay in the Premier League.”
Norwich, who begin the new season at Liverpool on August 9, are 1.83 to be relegated. Fellow newly-promoted outfits Sheffield United and Aston Villa are 1.63 and 3.00 respectively to go down, while Crystal Palace are priced at 6.00.
