2024 Copa America winner Valentin Carboni could leave Inter Milan for Olympique Marseille as both are set to hold a new round of talks in the coming week in an attempt to come to an agreement over his transfer.
Since taking over the managerial duty at the Ligue 1 club, Roberto De Zerbi has been working around to make solid additions to his side that will be featuring in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
According to reports from top journalists Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato.com, Marseille hopes to close a deal for Carboni next week, with the only obstacle being the slight difference in the two clubs’ valuations.
Inter prefers to keep hold of the 19-year-old, who is considered one of the brightest prospects in Serie A after a successful season on loan with Monza in 2023-24, but they could be forced into selling the young Argentine if the price tag of €40m is paid.
Reports from Italy say Marseille is pushing to bring Carboni in on an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the region of €35-€36m plus bonuses.
Being a player whom De Zerbis has specifically requested, the Italian manager, according to Sunday’s updates, could have his way in bringing the young starlet to France.
With the prospect of Champions League football and knowing that he can’t secure first-team action with the Nerazzurri yet, Carbonite would want a Marseille adventure.
Both clubs will need to find a solution in negotiation for the player, who is still under contract with the Nerazzurri for another four seasons until the summer of 2028.
One of the possibilities is that Inter reportedly wants to include a significant buy-back clause in a potential deal for the 19-year-old.
The two teams will meet in the coming week to discuss the final details of a transfer for the 2024 Copa America winner.
According to reports, Inter want to include a buy-back clause in the range of €40m-€45m, an exclusive buy-back clause for them, and not a release clause for any other team.
