Norwich City FC’s sporting director Stuart Webber has revealed that the player who tested positive for the coronavirus has now been confirmed negative after another test.
The unnamed player was tested positive one day after Norwich City’s friendly against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
However, the player will be tested one more time, which will make it the third time he will be tested to ascertain the level of his antibodies to the virus.
Webber also confirmed that the player is 100% fine with nothing seemingly wrong with him as he is asymptomatic, albeit he will nevertheless still self isolate until he tests negative with the League’s test according to the Premier League protocols.
“Luckily, the player in question is completely fine – 100%. There’s nothing wrong with him; he’s actually done an independent test with our doctor which has come back negative, which is confusing. Now he’s got to have a third test to see if that comes back negative and to check if he’s got antibodies, which could prove that he has had it in the past but doesn’t have it now.” Webber was quoted on BBC.
The Canaries will start their road towards escaping relegation with a game against Southampton at the Carrow Road on Friday.
Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, will face Manchester United on the same day with the club stating that there isn’t a need for Spurs players to self isolate as they were not close contacts with the positive player.
Manchester City v Arsenal and Aston Villa v Sheffield United will be the first set of games to open the return of the Premier League on Wednesday.
While Liverpool are Champions elect albeit subject to them winning two more games this season, Norwich City are rooted to the bottom of the League with a slim chance of escaping relegation.
