Norwich City FC said they felt embarrassed and disrespected with the way Liverpool handled the transfer negotiations for Jamal Lewis.
The Canaries chiefs feel Liverpool unsettled the defender after they failed to improve on their bid of £8m for the Northern Ireland left-back before signing Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas instead.
Liverpool failed to meet up to Norwich’s valuation of the player as they only tendered a bid worth £8million that the Canaries rejected as it was just half of their expectation.
While the Carrow Road outfit was willing to negotiate with the hope for an improved bid from the Premier League champions, they were disappointed with Jurgen Klopp’s side signing Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos instead.
While being relegated from the Premier League, Norwich City had clearly stated that their top players would not leave cheaply, and though the player was desperate for a move to Anfield, Norwich stood their ground.
Liverpool signed Tsimikas for a deal worth around 12 million pounds while the Greek player confirmed that his deal was already in progress before Olympiacos were knocked out of the Europa League by Wolves.
Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, had also stated that the Reds had been watching the Greece defender for two seasons, and the champions league experience of the player was also a factor in going for him. He is expected to provide competition for Andy Robertson
“We have watched Kostas for a long time and are really happy that he has joined us. It’s the perfect news before we come back together very soon. Kostas knows from personal experience what is required to challenge and succeed domestically and in the Champions League, and he is ambitious for more – just like us.” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on BBC.
