Six-cap Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma has joined Tottenham on loan till the end of the season from La Liga side Villarreal. In an unexpected twist, he is the first signing for the North London club in the January transfer window after initially being linked with Everton.
The North Londoners have the option to buy once the loan deal once it expires in the summer. The player revealed that joining Tottenham is a no-brainer because of the profile of the club and that of their current manager Antonio Conte.
“It’s amazing to sign for Spurs. I’m very delighted to be here; as soon as Tottenham came in for me, it was a no-brainer. It’s a massive club with a brilliant coach. The facilities are obviously unbelievable, so for me, it’s been very exciting to be part of this team,” Danjuma said
Danjuma was set to join Everton last weekend, with final details expected before Tottenham hijacked the deal and made their move. It’s a return to the Premier League for the player who was previously with Bournemouth between 2019 and 2021 before joining the Yellow submarine is in La Liga.
His time at the Vitality Stadium saw him score 17 goals in 52 games for the Cherries. Danjuma scored ten goals in 23 games in his first season with the Yellow Submarines, but they were not enough to win him a spot in the Netherlands team to Qatar at the FIFA World Cup last year.
Despite scoring 16 goals in all competitions for Villarreal last season, six goals coming in Villarreal’s run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season, he has only managed two goals in La Liga this term.
He will join an already-filled Tottenham frontline that has Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Lucas Moura. Harry Kane scored the only goal in Monday’s 1-0 win at Craven Cottage against Fulham.
The goal took him level with Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham Hotspur’s record scorer with 266 goals.
