Napoli have made it three wins from three games in the Champions League by swallowing Ajax Amsterdam 6-1.
Getting such a goal margin away from home shows that their European campaign has been extraordinary. In the historic 6-1 victory away to Ajax, Giacomo Raspadori bagged a brace.
The Partenopei went into the clash brimming with confidence after a perfect start to the Champions League. They are also joint Serie A leaders, continuing their winning run without injuring Victor Osimhen.
After Napoli missed a goal in the opening minutes from great work, Ajax broke the deadlock with a bizarre goal.
They got into the lead after a give-and-go between Anthony Taylor and Steven Bergwijn, and the wayward shot from the former went in off the leg of Kudus, who knew precious little about it.
In-form Napoli winger Kvicha Kvaratskhelia intercepted a poor clearance, and his fantastic curler went inches wide of the far top corner.
Some moments later, Napoli equalised through Raspadori. Mathias Olivera whipped a cross from the left for Raspadori, who scored with a diving header at the back post.
The visitors later turned it around from a Kvaratskhelia corner. The corner found the towering header from captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo who made no mistakes in sending it in.
Napoli should have made it three before halftime through Piotr Zielinski from Chucky Lozano’s cross. He was denied by a desperate save from nine yards, and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa fired the rebound over.
The Poland international later found the back of the net when he sprang the offside trap from an Anguissa through ball and beat the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Napoli made it four straight after the restart. A high press from the visitors saw Ajax make a mistake playing out from the back. Anguissa intercepted the ball to set up Raspadori’s strike.
Napoli is now the first Italian side to score over ten goals in the opening three Champions League group games.
Kvaratskhelia made it five with his debut Champions League goal after a smart one-two with Raspadori. He blasted the ball across the goalkeeper into the far bottom corner from six yards.
Simeone then made it six for the visitors nine minutes before the regulation time to record a memorable win for the Pertonopei.
