Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is known as one of the greatest managers in football, not only in recent years but maybe possibly in the history of the game.
After leading several clubs to different degrees of records and success stories, he’s now set for a new adventure in Turkey after joining and getting unveiled by Fenerbahce at the weekend.
Although the details of his contract with Fenerbahce yet to be confirmed, the 60-year-old was unveiled in front of thousands of fans at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul on Sunday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid manager thanked the fans for their love that he felt from the first moment when his name was first connected with Fenerbahce.
“Normally, a coach is loved after victories. In this case, I feel that I am loved before victories. That, for me, is a big responsibility that I feel. I promise you that from this moment, I belong to your family. This shirt is my skin. I want to work for Turkish football; I want to work for the Turkish league. I want to help to improve [it], but the most important thing for me is not Turkish football, it’s not the Turkish league, it’s Fenerbahce,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho joins the Turkish Giants, who finished in second on the log last season despite losing just a single game and garnering ninety-nine points.
The Portuguese has won all the European club competitions available as he’s the only manager who has won the won the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Although his managerial career began in his home country Portugal at Benfica and Porto, he also had spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Tottenham. In the 24 years or his career, he has won 21 major honours in that period.
His last job was at AS Roma, where he spent over two years and won the UEFA Conference League.
