Spanish Forward Alvaro Morata has revealed that he will be staying at Atletico Madrid for the 2022/2023 season as he looks forward to becoming a big part of Diego Simeone’s plan for the season.
Morata has been on loan at the Seria A club side since 2020, making around 67 appearances and scoring 20 goals.
However, the Spain international now wants to work with Diego Simeone again for another season.
“I’m lucky to have already worked with Simeone and his team, and that will make things easier. I can’t wait to start preparing for this season together.” Morata said.
Morata moved to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in 2019, initially on loan before making it a permanent move, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists in 44 appearances that season.
His contract at the Wanda Metropolitano runs till 2024, although things could have been different had Juve initiated his buy-out clause.
Alvaro Morata also wants to take his chances at Atletico Madrid, especially with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar coming up later in the year.
Meanwhile, some of Europe’s elite club sides have also shown interest in signing Alvaro Morata with North London club Arsenal, among those showing interest.
Last season Atletico Madrid finished third on the La Liga table, losing their title to City rivals Real Madrid.
Nevertheless, Diego Simeone believes that his squad is complete and can replicate what they achieved two seasons ago and win the league title.
He also believes that his team can work hard during the preseason and be in the best conditions to challenge for silverware in the season.
Atletico Madrid will travel to Getafe in their opening game of the next season before hosting Villareal in the second week.
The Madrid derby against Real will be on the 18th of September for the first leg.
