The Cottagers have bounced back impressively from last week’s disappointment after defeating Birmingham City FC by one goal to nil. The match was played on Saturday, November 9th at Birmingham City’s home ground Saint Andrews.
This was the west Londoners seventh win of The League season and which took them up to 6th position on the table with 26 points. This victory leaves Fulham in the playoff places improving their chances of achieving promotion to the English Premier League.
The match was a closely-contested affair. The away team came close in the opening minutes when Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic poked home the ball over the line thinking he had given his team the lead.
The Serbian was however left disappointed when the goal was cancelled by the referee who called a Foul on the Birmingham City goalkeeper. The home team also had chances of their own, but returning goalkeeper Marek Rodak who was out through suspension kept them at Bay with some stunning saves to take Fulham into the break on a clean sheet.
The second half resumed just as the first ended with both teams trading chances. The deadlock was finally broken in the 52nd minute when October PFA player of the month Mitrovic scored his 12th goal of the league campaign to give the visitors a fortuitous 1-0 lead. Blues goalkeeper Lee camp fumbled a crossed ball from Fulham substitute Cyrus Christie after being bundled into by the Serbian striker who then calmly slotted the ball into the net. The Birmingham City camp felt hard done by because they thought
Aleksandar had barged into their goalkeeper but the referee waved off their protests as the controversial goal stood.
The homestead would later come close to equalising, but the excellent Marek denied Blues player Lukas Jutkiewicz from point-blank range to keep intact the cottagers slim one-goal lead.
Fulham almost added a second goal at the death when substitute Aboubakar Kamara hit the post. Despite that Fulham went on to secure a victory which leaves them seven points behind league leaders West Bromwich Albion FC.
This Victory gives Fulham manager Scott Parker some breathing space as the English championship goes on an international break.
Fulham’s next match will be on Friday, November 22nd 2019 against Queens Park Rangers FC.
Fulham are backed at 1.69 to defeat QPR, while QPR are available at 4.82 to win the game
