English midfielder and controversial Manchester United player Mason Greenwood was spotted training in the City of Manchester at the weekend as his future continues to remain unclear after the end of the season where he played for La Liga side Getafe.
The 22-year-old had a successful loan stint at Getafe, where he was involved in 14 goals in 33 La Liga matches for the club side and despite the interest by the Spanish club in retaining the player and even signing him on the permanent deal, he has returned to England keeping himself fit unsure of what the future holds.
Greenwood scored eight goals and made six assists, which attracted attention from top La Liga and European clubs, but while his assault issue made him unwelcomed at Old Trafford with an initial consensus that he would be sold, a change in the ownership of Manchester United gave Greenwood’s career at the club a lifeline.
Perhaps that’s why he returned to Manchester, where he was spotted with another former Manchester United player, Shola Shoretire, whose contract has long expired. Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United still has a year left, but the decision of the Red Devils still hangs in the balance.
Greenwood was spotted at the training alongside his dad and Shoretire. He wore a Jamaican top, probably a nod to previous rumors that indicated that the Jamaican Football Association was ready to help Mason Greenwood switch his allegiance from England to the CONCACAF country since his chances are now near-extinct with the Three Lions.
Interests continue to rise from Spain, Italy, France, and Germany, but Manchester United are holding out for £40 million ($51m), but offers from suitors have been mainly in the region of £25m ($32m).
Manchester United will start their preseason with a friendly against Scottish club side Rangers on July 20.
