Liverpool were shocked when they travelled to Brentford and were dealt with a 3-1 defeat in their latest Premier League fixture. The Reds defense was simply all over the place as Brentford took full advantage as the hosts were already ahead courtesy of a Ibrahima Konate own goal. Jurgen Klopp\s men kept on riding their luck as Yan Wissa got two of his goals ruled out due to VAR but was third time lucky as he doubled the lead for the hosts.
The second goal that brentford scored through Yan Wissa was a mistake from Harvey Elliot who allowed the ball to go through his legs as a dummy with the hope that one of his teammates will pick it up but instead the possession was taken away by Brentford and the sequence ended up with them scoring the second goal. Hence former Liverpool and England international Michael Owen was left scratching his head as he could not comprehend what Harvey Elliot was thinking at that moment.
“This is straight after a disallowed goal. I don’t know for the life of me in your third what Harvey Elliott is doing there? Letting the ball go between his legs. He can’t have had a shout. It was never ever on. Then, all of a sudden, they get outnumbered at the back post and it’s 2-0 and a mountain to climb,” Michael Owen slammed the Liverpool youngster.
Even former Manchester City player and pundit Owen Hargreaves also shared a similar reaction to that of Michael Owen as he thought it was a terrible dummy. “It’s a terrible dummy from Harvey Elliott. It’s not a good ball from Alisson. When you are under pressure, just get the ball long.”
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain did score a goal and pull one back for the Reds and gave them some hope of still salvaging something from this game. But all of that hope was short lived when Konate came up with another howler allowing Bryan Mbeumo to score the third goal for the hosts.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are now in sixth position in the Premier League points table and they are 15 points off league leaders, Arsenal even having played a game more than the Gunners.
The Red desperately need some signing to freshen up their roster. They have been working very actively in the transfer market as they have already snapped up talented Dutch striker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven and are looking at several midfielders to provide them more solidity and options in the middle of the park, an area where they haven’t looked great this season.
