Mesut Ozil Wants to Stay at Arsenal, While the Club Wants Him Out

Mesut Ozil’s situation at Arsenal is quite complicated. For several seasons now, the player has not had the same performance as when he landed at the Emirates from Real Madrid.

The player is the highest-paid on Arsenal’s roster at £350,000-a-week. However, his performance does not compensate his salary, so there has been speculation about the German midfielder’s future at the club for months.

Mikel Arteta practically removed Ozil from the team by the end of the season. The German player did not even attend the FA Cup Final as a spectator and preferred to travel to Turkey on those dates, which shows the great distance between the player and the club.

Ozil has a contract with the Gunners for £18 million until 2021. It is reported that the club would even be willing to cover the remainder of the contract and subsidize the player’s pending salaries as long as he goes to another club.

During an interview with The Athletic, Ozil discussed his situation: “My position is clear. I’m here through to the last day of our agreement and I’ll give everything I have for this club. Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger. I showed in the past that I can come back into the team and I will show it again.”

The Gunners’ boss has plans to rebuild the team, and for this, he intends to free himself of at least eight players, including Mezut Ozil.
