It was a Lionel Messi show after he scored the only goals that mauled Estonia 5-0 in an international friendly game on Sunday.
The Paris Sainte-Germaine striker, who has been enjoying his international football after the Copa America triumph, has now equalled his career-best between club and country for a single match. For this performance, Messi has now tied the mark he set in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012.
This s another feather on his cap in a fantastic couple of weeks for the Albiceleste, having played a lead role in their Finalissima victory over Italy last Wednesday.
Speaking after the match, Messi’s teammate, Alejandro Gomez, said what the former Barcelona striker generates is incredible, adding that he forgives no one in front of the goal whenever he has the opportunity.
Also speaking, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni who is short of words to describe the current world footballer of the year, said there are no words left to describe him.
He pointed out that everything he generates is unique, and it’s a pleasure to have him in his squad.
With this feat, Messi has set another record of scoring against 30 different nations for his country.
Interestingly, Messi had, before the game, never scored more than three goals in a match for Argentina. Byt he put himself in the history book by scoring in the ninth minute from the penalty spot before doubling the goal in the 45th minute. He wasted no time in the second half to make it three ( 47th). He completed the rout with goals in the 71st and 76th, respectively.
With this performance at El Sadar on Sunday, it won’t be surprised to see Messi in top form for his country and PSG, which are hoping to win their first Champions League trophy next season.
