Outgoing Paris Sainte-Germaine star, Kylian Mbappé has emerged as Ligue 1 highest goal scorer in his final season with the champions.
Mbappe had already said his goodbye in his final home game in Ligue 1 last week as he prepared for his departure to Real Madrid. The 25-year-old finished as the top scorer in France’s top flight with 27 goals.
He finished the league on high, having dominated the scoring charts since joining PSG from AS Monaco. The France captain finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer in six consecutive seasons. He also carted away several awards in the 2019/20 season when he shared the accolade with AS Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder.
Mbappé did have it good with the management at the beginning of the season over his contract issues when he said he was not activating the extra year clause on his two-year deal.
This made the management suspend him from first-team actions he sat in the stands, ostracised from the first team as Les Parisiens drew to FC Lorient on the opening day of the season. However, since his re-integration, he has proved his mettle netting 27 goals in just 29 games.
Despite completing a full 90 minutes on just three occasions in the league since mid-February, when he informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his upcoming departure, no rival could get close to him.
Behind the 2018 World Cup winner on the goals chart are Lille OSC’s Jonathan David and Olympique Lyonnais’ Alexandre Lacazette, both of whom scored 19 goals.
It’s up to the superstar to replicate this form on his next team.
Although he’s yet to disclose his next team as he’s set to leave on a free transfer, many expect him to join his dream club- Real Madrid, where he is expected to live up to his rating.
Mbappe, who settled easily into PSG after his move from Monaco, is expected to witness a seamless transition in the next phase of his career.
