Mauricio Pochettino says he would have considered leaving Tottenham had they claimed Champions League glory last season.
The Argentine steered Spurs through to the final of Europe’s premier club competition for the first time in their history last term, but they were ultimately beaten 2-0 by Premier League rivals Liverpool in the showpiece.
Pochettino had hinted in the build-up to that match that he would have considered his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had Spurs claimed overall glory and he has now confirmed that leaving would have been a real option.
“When you touch the glory, you behave differently, the players behave differently, the challenge becomes different,” Pochettino said. “If the result had been different, maybe you can think it is a moment to step out of the club and give it a possibility for a real new chapter with a new coaching staff.”
Tottenham will play their first match since losing the Champions League final when they take on Juventus in the International Champions Cup on Sunday and they are priced at 3.20 to win that contest, while the Old Lady are available at 2.15 and the draw is on offer at 3.50.
One man that will not be involved in that match is full-back Danny Rose, who, along with Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, has not travelled with the squad to Singapore amid talk of a potential transfer.
Paris Saint-Germain are the latest side to be linked with the England international, but Pochettino says he will be welcomed straight back into the fold if no such transfer materialises. “Danny is our player.
We are dealing with the club and the agents,” Pochettino added. “They need time to sort it out. In 10 days, we will go back to London, if he is there he will be normal with the team.”
