Bayern Munich new signing Matthijs de Ligt is having difficulties coping with the training sessions at the club after complaining about the intensity of the trainings.
De Ligt joined Bayern this summer on a €67m plus €10m add-ons deal, the defender had spent the previous three years at Juventus, having joined the Bianconeri from Ajax in 2019.
However, De Ligt said the training sessions he has had since joining Bayern Munich are the hardest he has had in four years.
These were revealed by Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann after De Ligt lasted less than 30 minutes in their preseason friendly game against DC United in the US.
“I spoke to him after training, and he said the session was his hardest in four years. He didn’t play that many minutes last season, and I heard that in Italy then, it’s not easy to stay fit. We have to train hard with him,” Nagelsmann said.
De Ligt was a second-half substitute in the 6-2 victory over DC United, but he was able to score soon after the substitution before exiting the game in the 74th minute.
He played 42 matches for Juventus last season, where he scored three times and made a single assist.
It is unclear whether the Netherlands international will play a part in Bayern Munich DFB Super Cup match on Saturday 30th of July in a game that will signify the start of the 2022/2023 season against RB Leipzig.
Then the Bavarians would try to defend their Bundesliga title when they kick off the new season with their first league match 5 days later against UEFA Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, they will try to win their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title without their former talisman Robert Lewandowski who has now moved to La Liga side Barcelona.
