Bayern Munich teenage sensation Mathys Tel became Bundesliga’s youngest scorer on Saturday. The youngster scored in Bayern’s 2-2 draw against Stuttgart, placing him among the league’s teenage scorers.
Despite the disappointing Bavarian game over the weekend, that hasn’t changed the fact that the 17-year-old has made a massive breakthrough in a squad filled with quality at such a tender age.
The young forward replaced the statistical record of his fellow teammate Jamal Musiala who scored his first senior goal aged 17 against Schalke two years ago.
The French-born has starred three times for Nagelsmann’s side this campaign getting his first goal in his first league start during the weekend. He joined the Bundesliga champions from French side Rennes for a fee of around 28.5m which seems huge for a player his age.
Having achieved this feat in both the Bundesliga and as the club’s youngest-ever scorer, Tel hopes to make giant strides as he continues his fine form in the coming years.
Ever since the exit of Bayern’s prolific goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, the Bavarians have been trying to fill the void in the goalscoring department. They will now hope the emergence of their newly acquired teen can somehow find a long-lasting solution. For now, it seems Nagelsmann trusts him more to do the job upfront. His ability of massive possession of the ball, positioning, and blistering pace have made him a force to reckon with and one to watch out for in the coming years.
However, Bayern might not want to overweight him with such responsibilities as they would love to integrate him gradually into the team.
Bayern returns to action in Europe as they welcome Spanish giants Barcelona to the Allianz Arena in the Champions League on Tuesday.
