England midfielder Mason Mount will move to Manchester United on a five-year deal after the Reds agreed to pay Chelsea an initial £55M deal plus £5M in add-ons.
Manchester United have agreed on a deal worth up to $75M with Chelsea for Mason Mount as the Blues continue to prune a bloated team with Kai Havertz gone to Arsenal; Mason Mount follows with expectations that Ivan Perisic will be next.
This move means only three players will remain from Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League winning team Kanté, Koulibaly, Kovačić, Ziyech, Mendy, Loftus-Cheek, Havertz, and Mount have all left Stamford Bridge.
French midfielder Ngolo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, and Hakim Ziyech all moved to Saudi Arabian with the recent transfer waves from the middle east. Mateo Kovacic moved to Manchester City as he replaces Ilkay Gundogan after a £30M deal.
German midfielder Gundogan moved to Barcelona on a free transfer with three years of contract with the Blaugrana after winning a treble last season.
Meanwhile, after two unaccepted bids from Manchester United to Chelsea for Mason Mount, Erik Ten Hag finally got the England midfielder as his first signing of the season.
Mount scored 33 goals in 195 matches for Chelsea since his senior debut in 2019, and although he had a year left on his contract, Chelsea was willing to keep the player who joined their youth team at age six.
Although Chelsea finished last season with one of their worst finish in 25 years in the Premier League in twelfth position, Mason Mount won the UEFA Champions League, the Fifa Club World Cup, and Uefa Super Cup with the Blues.
Manchester United finished in third position last season, and Mason Mount’s imminent arrival could be the first of many signings aimed at strengthening the team ahead of the 2023/2024 season.
