Ligue 1 side, Olympique de Marseille are interested in signing Chelsea defender, Wesley Fofana.
The 24-year-old defender has experienced injuries this season rhe Stamford Bridge, reducing his playing time. Since making the €80m move from Leicester City back in 2022, the Frenchman has been limited to making just 14 appearances in all competitions this season. Since joining Chelsea three summers ago, he has accumulated just 34 appearances.
The current situation has made the Blues ready to listen to offers for him ahead of the summer window transfer.
Foot Mercato reported that the Premier League side could be about to cut their losses, and they are open to Fofana leaving this summer, either on loan or on a permanent deal.
Marseille have been a long-term suitor of the France international, and they seem to have retained their interest.
It was also gathered that Fofana, being a childhood OM fan, would be open to the move.
Fofana had, in a chat with Free Foot in September 2024, revealed that Marseille made an attempt to sign him last summer before eventually remaining with Chelsea.
“I had a conversation that touched me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t weigh it up (the move). [The call] was from (Medhi) Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director. It touched me, and I think everyone knows why. I thought about it, but there you go; the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club.”
From the look of things, if Chelsea are ready to listen to offers for the Frenchman, they won’t hesitate to let him go.
Fofana can also get regular playing time with the Ligue 1 club and be featured in the UEFA Champions League with the club next season.
The defender still has a contract with the Blues until 2029.
