Manchester United will be without their hot and in-form striker Marcus Rashford when they play Sevilla in the first leg of their quarter-final UEFA Europa League tie on Thursday.
Marcus Rashford featured in Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Everton at the weekend in the Premier League but did not finish the game after pulling a muscle injury.
Rashford has scored 28 goals in 47 matches this season; 20 of the goals came in 28 matches after the World Cup in December.
In a pre-match conference held by Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag, he stated that the English forward would not be able to play the game although he cannot give more details on the injury and that he will miss a few games.
“I can’t give more details of it because we don’t know. We have to see how it develops, the injury. Of course, it’s a setback, and he’s disappointed about it, but he’s not totally broke because he knows he will return quickly. He’s optimistic, and he’s started straight on his recovery and his rehab, so that helps to get back soon.” manager Erik Ten Hag said.
In the absence of Marcus Rashford, the manager has revealed that it is an opportunity to take a look at all the players in the team, with Brazilian forward Antony and French striker Anthony Martial expected to play a part at Old Trafford on Thursday when Sevilla comes to Old Trafford.
The Dutch manager said he expects more from Antony, who has not scored a lot for Manchester United since returning from the World Cup, and expects him to work on that in a bid to continue to retain his place in the Red Devils squad.
Manchester United hosting Sevilla is one of the four quarter-final matches scheduled for Thursday as Juventus hosts Sporting while Roma and Feyenoord face off in a repeat of the first UEFA Europa Conference League final last season. Bayer Leverkusen and Belgian side Royale Union SG will also clash.
