Following the UEFA Champions League group stage draws held on Thursday, Dortmund’s skipper has shared his thoughts on how his side plans to go head to head with other opponents.
The Black and Yellow side has been drawn against Premier League champions Manchester City, which means it will be a reunion for their ex-hitman Erling Haaland, who left the club earlier this summer to join Pep Guardiola’s side.
In an exclusive interview with the club media, Marco Reus analyzed other team’s in the group, saying he believes his side can pull through.
“We know the sides we’re drawn against are excellent, especially Manchester City. It will be great to see Haaland again, and we are also aware of the threat they [City] possess. But we hope to get the desired points to secure qualifications.”. He added.
It will be interesting to see how Dortmund kick off their journey in Europe after being previously knocked out by Benfica last campaign. This year, with a new manager and some new faces added during the summer, it is with high hopes they take a step forward this season.
Other teams drawn in Dortmund’s group are Spanish and Danish sides Sevilla and FC Copenhagen, with Matchday 1 set to kick off on the 6th of September and group stages rounding off on the 2nd of November.
Considering transfers, Dortmund has blocked the possible exit of Thomas Meunier from leaving the club. The right-back has been a subject of speculation amid his exit at the Signa Iduna, with Barcelona and English side Manchester United looking to secure the Belgian’s services.
Now the Dortmund hierarchies will look to keep the player as they see him part of the squad following participation in the Domestic league and Europe.
