Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will clash in one of the four FA Cup quarterfinal fixtures made in the quarterfinal draws on Wednesday. The two sides got past their respective opponents in the round of 16, with Manchester United scoring a late goal to get past Nottingham Forest, while Liverpool was able to beat Southampton despite fielding a starting lineup that had a lot of young teenage stars.
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro scored towards the 90-minute Mark to give Manchester United A10 win away at City Ground against Nottingham Forest. The win was made possible by a lot of goalkeeping excellence from Manchester United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana.
Although there were shouts of offside by the opposition for Casemiro’s goal, the Red Devils got their goal and got their ticket into the Quarterfinals.
Liverpool beat championship side Southampton despite their numerous injury woes. Debutant Lewis Koumas was one of six Liverpool starters aged 21 or under; his fellow 18-year-old Jayden Danns netted twice off the bench as Liverpool beat Southampton to set up an FA Cup quarterfinal tie with Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Erik Ten Hag is already looking forward to the fixture, and he is happy that his team is becoming more consistent.
“Fantastic games coming up. This team, what they showed today, that’s great. They have to show it every game. I’ve seen it the last couple of months, not on Saturday. We found the way to win. We were consistent. We lost one time in 2024. We are consistent. It’s not so easy when you have the whole backline, and we have to shuffle and play players in different positions. I’m very proud we did it.” Ten Hag said.
Elsewhere, Chelsea defeated Leeds United with a 3-2 scoreline as Mudryk, Jackson and Conor Gallagher scored. The Blues will face Championship side Leicester City.
