Manchester United have responded to their striker Cristiano Ronaldo amid the rumors of his move to Chelsea. The club has told their forward that he is not for sale. Ronaldo had earlier revealed his intentions to stay at the club after their worst ever points tally in the previous season.
Meanwhile, it was reported by David Ornstein that new Blues chairman Todd Boehly met with Ronaldo’s manager Jorge Mendes, which gave air to such speculations.
However, the Red Devils don’t want to let go off their talisman striker. Ronaldo was the top performer for Manchester United in the previous season as he had scored 24 goals across all competitions, out of which 18 had come in the Premier League.
Mirror has reported that Ronaldo is going to play a key part in the club for the next season.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo had heaped praise on the new manager Erik Ten Hag and said he would look to win trophies with the club in the next season.
He told the club’s official website: “What I know about him is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he’s an experienced coach. Things need to change the way he wants. I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies.”
On the other hand, former England player Paul Mersion feels Manchester United should let go of Ronaldo as Erik Ten Hag’s style of play will not suit the Portuguese’s game.
He wrote in Dail Star Column, “I’m sure Erik ten Hag wants to play a certain way. He’ll want United to play like Ajax. To press and move the ball quickly. But it’s going to be hard for a team with Cristiano Ronaldo in it to be a high-intensity pressing team. He’s not going to be chasing down every ball is he? If the manager gets them in the top four I think he’s done a great job. I really do. He needs to consolidate and just get them into the Champions League. United fans shouldn’t expect much more.”
