Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has questioned Manchester United’s collective efforts. Carragher feels that the Red Devils’ success is dependent on individual brilliance rather than collective efforts from their players. He also believes that adding Cristiano Ronaldo to the mix has added to the club’s woes.
United haven’t been at their best in the last couple of matches as they lost against West Ham United and could only manage a draw against Everton while playing at their home ground, Old Trafford on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t start against the Toffees and a lot of football plaudits have questioned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision.
Carragher wrote in his column for Telegraph via Football 365, “They remain a team of individuals rather than a team. Cristiano Ronaldo has added to that rather than fixed it. That’s why, despite a brilliant squad, they are not yet at the level of the other three. Dropping five points in their last two home games highlighted lingering inconsistency.”
Carragher added that benching Ronaldo has added pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his team could not win against Everton. Ronaldo was fuming in frustration after the match ended in a draw against Everton.
“He walked off the pitch muttering to himself which in some ways throws the questions up in the air. ‘What’s he saying? Who’s he annoyed with?’ And it can only come back to the manager.”
Manchester United will need to come up with a collective effort in their coming matches to turn the tables. The Red Devils have won only two out of their six matches across all competitions and they will need to turn the tables in the next coming matches.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will next face Leicester City on 16 October.
