Reports emanating from Manchester United have revealed that senior players in the team have backed their under-pressure Dutch manager Erik ten Hag amid a torrid early 2024-25 campaign.
The former Ajax boss has led United to an underwhelming start to the season, putting his job at risk once again. Local reports from England (The Telegraph) have suggested that the Dutchman has the upcoming two matches against Porto and Aston Villa to prove that he is the right man for the job.
The report also revealed that Ten Hag has the support of senior players in the dressing room, who believe they can turn their poor form around.
Erik Ten Hag has had ample opportunities to create an identity for a side with which he’s already in his third year, but not much seems to have improved on the pitch as the Red Devils look lost on the pitch, and they had no answer to Tottenham during their 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the United manager is upbeat that his side will scale through their current struggles and turn their season around, while he has stated that he isn’t worried about losing his job.
Speaking ahead of his side’s visit to Porto in the Europa League, Ten Hag said: “We are going to make a success from the season. Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about. We can sort (the problems) out, this team can sort this out.”
United extended Ten Hag’s contract through to June 2026 in July, after the 54-year-old was retained as manager following the club’s end-of-season review.
With only two wins from six league games, Ten Hag and Manchester United have replicated the start David Moyes had in his first season after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013-14. Manchester United are winless in three games in all competitions after the weekend’s 3-0 loss against the Spurs.
