Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag reckons the club needs more investment to compete for trophies in the next season. The Red Devils won the Carabao Cup in February and they also finished at third place in the Premier League standings with 23 wins in 38 matches and a total of 75 points. United won their last league match against Fulham by 2-1 at Old Trafford after Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes scored for the home team in a come-from-behind win.
Manchester United will also take on derby rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3 and they will be looking to bag their second title of the season. The Dutchman tactician feels the club is moving in the right direction and they can compete for more trophies given the right investment.
“We are in the right direction, but we are not there where we have to be, there’s still a long way to go, there’s potential in this team and individual players,” Ten Hag told reporters on Sunday.
“We showed during the season we made progress, that’s a compliment to the players and the coaches, we worked really hard, but we have to make an investment.
“The club knows if you want to play top four, compete for trophies in this tough league then you have to invest otherwise you don’t have a chance because other clubs will do.”
In fact, Manchester United last won the Premier League title in 2012-13 under the tutelage of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was the star of the season for the club as he scored 17 goals and provided five assists in the 35 games he played in the Premier League.
