Manchester United’s midfield prodigy Kobbie Mainoo is set to be sidelined for “a few weeks” after sustaining a muscular injury in United’s barren draw at Aston Villa, which also ruled him out of this month’s international break with England.
He missed training on Thursday alongside Harry Maguire, who is also out with a calf injury against Aston Villa.
There were hopes the 19-year old might be able to recover early enough ahead of Saturday’s meeting against Brentford but he’s now set to miss a set of fixtures.
Mainoo has played in nine matches across all competitions this season, and the composure he brings to the Red Devils’ midfield will be dearly missed in the next couple of matches as the pressure continues to mount on Erik Ten Hag.
The Red Devils manager is under intense scrutiny and in need of a scintillating run of results to turn Manchester United’s fortunes around and ultimately save his job, but the absence of Kobbie Mainoo will definitely come as a great loss of balance in the midfield.
Meanwhile, new signing, Manuel Ugarte who was forced off with injury during Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Tuesday has undergone a recovery session.
Manchester United’s injury list continues to take new entries, having contended with a series of injury crises already this season with Mason Mount, Tyrell Malafia, Leny Yoro, and Luke Shaw all on the treatment table before the international break.
The club, however, confirmed that Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad have all returned to training after being unavailable during October’s international break.
Mazraoui couldn’t feature for Morocco after undergoing minor surgery after experiencing heart palpitations. Amad was absent from Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to illness, and Garnacho withdrew from the Argentina squad due to a knee injury. Manchester United will host Brentford at the weekend when League matches resume.
