Manchester United have made an inquiry about Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi, as they try to solve their goal problem.
The Red Devils, according to French Football News, have contacted the Argentine’s representatives via intermediaries over a potential move to Old Trafford.
Icardi has not had enough playing time in Paris, and he has been left out of PSG’s first two games of their 2022/23 campaign.
Since the manager, Christophe Galtier, had said the 29-year-old is free to leave this summer, it could be an easy deal for the Premier League side.
The Argentine has had his game time reduced at Paris with Neymar, Messi, and Kylian Mbappe playing a trident role in the club attack.
After an initial loan stint at Parc De Princes, Icardi joined the club on a permanent deal that cost £45m in 2020 from Inter Milan.
However, since his permanent transfer to PSG, the Argentina international has struggled to cement a place in the club’s attack. He scored just 18 goals across all competitions in the last two seasons.
He is also said to be keen on a move to England and wishes for the deal to go through.
Since his representatives have been contacted, what’s left is direct contact between the two clubs.
United is in need of a striker as Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial seem unreliable at the moment where the club lies in the last position of the Premier League table after losing their first two games of the season.
The 20-time-league winners see the striking department as a priority after being trashed 4- by Brentford. They had suffered a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford against Brighton and Hove Albion on Day 1.
Erik ten Hag see the need for more firepower after the current squad struggle in front of goal.
With few days to the end of the transfer window, there is no time on their side for further enforcement.
