Manchester United and Chelsea played a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening in a rescheduled Premier League tie. Chelsea, who are almost secure for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season, went into the game looking to extend the gap between themselves and the fourth-place position where Arsenal sits.

Meanwhile, Manchester United needed at least a win to boost their slim chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Anything but a win, having played two games more than the teams above them in the top four, will mean that United will finish the season as one of their worst ever.

The Red Devils had just a win in their last six games before the tie, with the 3-2 victory over Norwich City being the only time they secured all three points. Since beating the color is, Manchester United have gone on to lose 4-1 to Liverpool and 3-1 to Arsenal at the weekend.

Chelsea’s last two matches were against their fellow London rivals Arsenal and West Ham United. While they lost 4-2 to the gunners, they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over West Ham in their last Premier League game.

Both sides played out a 0-0 draw in the first half, failing to test each other, but the blues got into the lead in the second half through Marcus Alonso at the hour mark.

Ronaldo got his first league goal against Chelsea two minutes later to snatch a point away from the Blues.

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick was satisfied with the point and the performance of his players.

“It was a good point for us. In the first half, Chelsea dominated the game. You can see that they have top players and are well organized, and it’s not so easy to get hold of them. At least we fought. They are one of the top teams in the league. There is nothing to blame the players for in terms of attitude.” Ralf Rangnick said.
