Hardly a thing has changed for Manchester United since German boss Ralf Rangnick’s arrival at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were underwhelming in their 1-0 defeat against the Wolves as Portugal international Joao Moutinho scored the solitary goal in the Premier League fixture.
After the game, Rangnick slammed his players for not performing at their standards. Manchester United were in the seventh position before this game, four points behind Arsenal in the fourth spot. While they still keep their spot in the midtable, the defeat was a tough blow for them and their top four plans this season.
Rangnick who was visibly frustrated with the result on the night slammed his players for not being at par with their opponents. The German even criticised the team’s style of play.
“We didn’t play well at all individually or collectively. In the first half, we had big problems to keep them away from our goal. In the second half, we changed to a back three and had more control then a spell of 15 minutes where we could have scored.”
Speaking on the goal that United conceded Rangnick was not happy with how Moutinho had acres of space and could take the shot completely unmarked. He alarmed the players to up the ante in future matches.
“The goal we conceded, we had enough players in the box. The cross had been defended by Jones but the goal we conceded was like too many this season. Moutinho could shoot unmarked with no problems, no pressure. We’re very disappointed about the result and parts of our performance.”
Wolves also needed this win as they are in the eighth position in the Premier League points table and this win at Old Trafford will give a boost to their morale.
United on the night could only create seven chances whereas their opponents doubled the tally with 14 chances. Hence Rangnick stated that the Wolves were the deserved winners of this game.
The German tactician pointed out how Manchester United could not press at all. He admitted that his team tried but were not successful.
“We didn’t press at all. We tried but we were not able to get into those pressing situations, ” he concluded.
