Manchester City will hope to get their title defense back on track with a win over Brentford on Tuesday after they drew 1-1 against Chelsea at the weekend. The game against the Bees at Etihad on Tuesday gives Pep Guardiola’s men an instant shot at redemption.
However, it most likely won’t be easy as it is, even with the fact that Brentford lost 4-1 to Liverpool at the weekend. The Bees were the only club to leave the Etihad victorious last season with a 1-0 win.
Pep Guardiola and his side are looking for an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title. The Spanish manager explained that despite the draw against Chelsea at the weekend, he and his players are aware of the standards that they have set.
“I know our standards, and we demand them from what we have done in the past. It is not easy to sustain for a long time – we did it, but it’s not easy. We drew against Chelsea at home, and now we have to do it. We won 11 games, and people said they’re not going to lose another game. Now the subject is changed completely after just one draw when we were who we are for 60 minutes. You demand to us all the time – the only team – because we have achieved what we have achieved. We have to live with that.” Guardiola said.
The two teams met a few weeks ago, and Phil Foden netted a hat trick. Brentford is in 15th place on the log, six points away from the drop zone, and Everton is in 19th position.
Manchester City could jump to second place on the table ahead of Arsenal if they defeat Brentford. A win for Pep Guardiola’s side will put them one point behind Liverpool, who are top of the table with 57 points, two points ahead of Arsenal in second place with 55 points, while Manchester City is currently up third with 53 points.
