Riyad Mahrez scored a brace while Erling Haaland broke his goal-scoring drought as Manchester City came from behind to beat Tottenham 4-2 on Thursday in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.
City has been winless in their last three games, losing to Manchester United in the Manchester derby at the weekend. That result put them 8 points behind table-toppers Arsenal.
Man City couldn’t have started the game worse as Tottenham went 2-0 up just before half-time thanks to goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal.
However, Manchester City fought back in the second half as Julian Alvarez pulled one back a few minutes after the break before Erling Haaland made it 2-2.
Riyadh Mahrez then scored a second-half brace to make it 4-2 as Manchester City reduced the point gap between themselves and the Gunners to just five points.
Manchester City Riyadh Mahrez stated that the team was unlucky in the first have to have conceded twice but stated that they deserved the win.
“When we came back, we were frustrated. We have done it before. We have come back from two goals behind in the past. We showed what and who we are and had a bit of luck too. We deserved the win.” Mahrez said.
However, City can reduce Arsenal’s points gap to two if Pep Guardiola’s side can get a win against Wolves on Saturday just before Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspurs missed an opportunity to go within three points of Manchester United, rather the loss leaves them in fifth position and five points away from the UEFA Champions League spots. Antonio Conte’s men with face Fulham next in the Premier League.
Other Premier League games for the weekend will see Liverpool will host Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday while Leicester City will play Brighton, and Southampton will welcome Aston Villa to the Saint Mary’s Stadium.
West Ham will face Everton, and Crystal Palace will hope to secure a win against Everton in Saturday’s final game.
