Manchester United have been thrown into bigger problems and their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be facing bigger injury worries in the coming days. It was confirmed that midfielder Paul Pogba and goalkeeper David de Gea will play no part in weekend’s clash against Liverpool.
The match, which would be played at the Old Trafford on Sunday, is a must-win for Manchester United in order to regain their ego and move back into the top 10 of the English Premier League table after finishing 12th just before the international break.
Midfielder Paul Pogba will sit out the game due to a niggling foot injury which he has been nursing since the end of August limiting him to just two appearances within that period. In total so far this season, he has only played five out of eight league matches by United so far.
The Red Devils will definitely miss the Frenchman’s abilities in the middle of the pitch against the league leaders as they sit just two points above the relegation zone, compared to Liverpool’s 8-point gap atop of the league table.
Paul Pogba’s last game for Manchester United was against Arsenal in the 1-1 draw but failed to make a recovery before the 1-0 loss to Newcastle before the international break.
Meanwhile, United’s first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea may also sit out of the Sunday’s clash with Liverpool due to a groin injury while on international duty with Spain in the 1-1 draw against Sweden in the Euro 2020 qualifiers played on Tuesday.
Although unlike Pogba, goalkeeper David De Gea has a slim chance of featuring in the game on Sunday which, however, is subjected to the results of the scan which will be conducted to ascertain the extent of the injury on Thursday.
In De Gea’s absence, second-choice Sergio Romero will be in between the sticks for Manchester United.
Manchester United are backed at 4.83 to defeat Liverpool. While Liverpool are strongly fancied at 1.73.
