It was a sad night for David Luiz as he was red-carded, and Arsenal endured a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
The game between Arsenal and Man City was a much-anticipated match after the lockdown suspended the Premier League for three months.
However, it ended up as a poor return for former City assistant coach and now Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners were to blame for their loss against Manchester City, and it shows that there is a lot of improvement the Spanish boss has to make.
Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, and Phil Foden were all on the score sheet as Manchester City cruised to a decisive win on their Premier League restart. They impressed throughout the game and finished with a solid 3-0 win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
Before the match began, the players, referees, and coaches observed a minute’s silence. They also took a knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement that is ongoing around the world.
In the game, Arsenal lost Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injury, with the David Luiz replacing the Pablo Mari. While Manchester City defender, Eric Garcia, was taken away on a stretcher after a terrible collision with his goalkeeper Ederson.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for City just before half-time, after David Luiz made a poor judgment of De Bruyne’s through-ball.
In the second half, David Luiz’s horror show continued as he brought down Riyad Mahrez and given a straight red card.
De Bruyne scored the resulting penalties putting an end City’s run of four consecutive missed penalties in the EPL.
The last game came from substitute, Phil Foden when he tapped into an empty goal after Sergio Aguero struck the post.
The defeat was Arsenal’s first loss in the Premier League this year. And it now means that Arteta’s side are ninth in the league table and eight points behind of fourth-placed Chelsea. Their next match is against Brighton on Saturday.
The other Premier League match played yesterday was Aston Villa and Sheffield United, which ended 0-0.
