Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side made history on Tuesday evening after beating Bayern Munich by a 3-0 scoreline in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final match.
Manchester City is unbeaten in their last 25 home Champions League matches at the Etihad (23 wins, two draws). The longest unbeaten home run by a Premier League club in the UCL ever.
Rodri opened the scoring with a stunner in the first half, while Bernardo Silva struck gold in the 70th minute. Erling Haaland made history with a third goal six minutes later; the goal is his 45th this season.
His 45 goals this season across competitions are the most by a Premier League player ever.
The result of Manchester City at an advantage ahead of the second leg with a three-goal lead, but Guardiola, who spent three seasons at Bayern Munich in Germany, believes it will be disastrous to rule out the Germans as he knows what it takes to play at the Allianz arena.
“It really was a good Champions League game and top teams. During 55 and 60 minutes, it was a tight game. We found an incredible goal from Rodri, but we could not control the pockets with Musiala and Gnabry. In the first five, 10, 15 minutes of the second half they were better; they had chances. It’s an incredible result, but I know what it means to go to Munich, and we have to do something new not to suffer so much the quality they have, and we will try and do it.” Pep Guardiola said.
Manchester City, who got to the final in 2021, where they lost to Chelsea, also got to the semi-finals last season and were only a few minutes from securing a final ticket before the Real Madrid miracle happened.
This season if they get past Bayern Munich on both legs, they will face the winner of the Real Madrid versus Chelsea quarter-final fixture.
