Real Madrid have been handed a tough draw in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League after Monday’s draws. The Los Blancos, who are record winners of the competition, will face German side RB Leipzig.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are the only other team aside from Manchester City that managed to win all six group-stage matches. The Spaniards finished atop Group C, which had Napoli, Braga, and Union Berlin.
RB Leipzig was only able to secure second place behind Manchester City in the group stage, amassing 12 points and losing only to City.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will travel to Napoli for the first leg of their round of 16 encounter before hosting the Italians in the second leg.
Atletico Madrid will also face an Italian team in Inter Milan, while Real Sociedad’s reward for finishing as group winners in group D is a clash with French side PSG.
Elsewhere in the La Liga, Girona returned to the top of the table after a 3-0 win over Alaves. Artem Dovbyk scored his ninth and tenth La Liga goals this season in the 23rd and 59th minutes of the game.
The Ukrainian has scored 10 La Liga goals this season, only behind Jude Bellingham’s 13 goals. The Catalan club are already nine points ahead of Barcelona and two ahead of Real Madrid in second place.
The team could go into the new year atop of the La Liga if they beat Real Betis on Thursday. La Liga matches will continue on Tuesday, with Rayo Vallecano facing Valencia, Atletico Madrid facing Getafe, and Granada hosting Sevilla.
