Olympique Lyonnais have contacted Nantes for the transfer of winger Moses Simon.
Foot Mercato reported that Les Gones are interested in bringing in the 28-year-old Nigerian international.
Lyon, who just recorded their second win of the season, would have wanted him this winter, but it is unlikely a move will be made during the winter transfer window.
Reports say they will wait until they can sign Moses on a free contract at the end of the season.
More of the reason is that the Nantes attacker will likely feature for Nigeria in next year’s AFCON in January before his contract runs out this summer.
Simon has played in 15 matches this season for Les Canaris, scoring three goals and registering four assists.
In a related development, Lyon have been given the green light by the governing body to do some transfer business this winter.
They are mobilising themselves for the transfer window, where they are expected to complete mostly loan deals.
Head of recruitment Mathieu Louis Jean is reportedly looking at several options, aiming to bring in players on loan from big European sides and also try to attract a few permanent moves for players whose contracts are about to expire.
Despite their 3-0 victory over Toulouse, courtesy of Alexandre Lacazzette’s hatrick, Les Gones are still rock bottom of Ligue 1.
The win leaves Lyon three points from safety under interim manager Pierre Sage.
Meanwhile, Sage is set to remain as the manager until the international break.
Sage occupies the role on an interim basis after being promoted from his role at the club’s academy to replace Fabio Grosso at the end of November.
So far, he has recorded two losses in three games.
Things could have been different had OL lost that game.
This means Sage would likely be allowed to remain as interim manager until the winter break.
