Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has stated that he hopes to keep playing till he turns 40 after his fantastic display in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win at Celta Vigo at the weekend.
The Croatian midfielder has been tagged as immortal by Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti for his ageless display for the club.
The former Tottenham midfielder and five-time UEFA Champions League winner was a huge part of the Los Blanco’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League double last season.
The 36-year-old was on target and for Real Madrid’s second goal of the night while he assisted Vinicius Junior’s goal that made it 3-1.
Modric reveals that he is in the right state of mind to play till he’s 40 while also hoping to maintain the level of productivity in the Spanish capital.
“I see myself capable of playing until I’m 40 years old or so. I am very well physically and mentally. I have to go little by little and enjoy what I am doing. I am in a very big club, the best in the world without a doubt, and I am working to maintain this level for as many years as possible.” Modric said.
The 36-year-old had played 236 games for Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham in 2012.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th, while Iago Aspas restored parity nine minutes later from the same penalty spot.
Luka Modric then restored the Los Blancos’ lead before half-time. Vinicius Junior extended the lead in the 56th minute before he provided the assist for Federico Valverde ten minutes later.
Belgian forward missed the chance to make it 5-1 when he missed a penalty in the 87th minute of the game.
Real Madrid are second on the table with six points from two matches played, and they will face Espanyol next.
