Liverpool crushed to a 3-0 victory over Ajax on Wednesday night as goals from Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Harvey Elliot capped off an emphatic win for the Reds at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The Premier League side showed a dominant display against a stubborn Ajax side, who were punished for being wasteful in front of a goal around the half-hour mark.
The Dutch champions made the first attempt in the opening two minutes when Brian Brobbey played in Steven Berghuis, who drifted past left-back Andy Robertson only for his effort to hit the base of the woodwork.
The dangerous Berghuis came close again a few minutes after a loose pass from Alexander Arnold. Unfortunately, he failed to hit the target once again.
Jurgen Klopp’s men regrouped and took hold of the game, neutralising their host threat which almost resulted in a goal for Robertson but failed to convert after a clever pass from Firminho.
With all the chances begging for conversion for Ajax, Liverpool finally broke the deadlock with the halftime whistle close to a halt when the ever-dangerous Mo’ Salah excellently looped the ball over onrushing Pasveer to make it 1-0
Darwin Nunez saw his shot cannoned off the bar from just six yards with a disappointing miss. He, however, made atonement for his miss in the 48th minute by doubling his side’s lead with a powerful header from a Robertson freekick.
There minutes later, Harvey Elliot put the game beyond doubts to further stretch the scoreline 3-0. The youngster received a pass from the Egyptian winger- Salah before firing home.
Trailing by three goals, Ajax refused to back down as they continued to look for a plan to give them a head start and were almost rewarded with a consolation, only for Kenneth Taylor to blast the ball into the skies.
Liverpool remains second in Group A, three points behind leaders Napoli who defeated Rangers by the same scoreline, While Ajax dropped into the Europa League zone in third place.
