Liverpool Set to Trigger €60m Release Clause for Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo

Liverpool FC are reportedly on the brink of signing Real Sociedad’s Japanese star, Takefusa Kubo, during the winter transfer window. The Reds are prepared to activate Kubo’s €60 million release clause, according to reports from Japan, as referenced by Diario AS.

This transfer would not only mark a notable addition to Liverpool’s squad but also a substantial financial deal involving Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.

Takefusa Kubo, 23, enjoyed a standout season with Real Sociedad, showing his exceptional skills until the Asian Cup, where he faced some fitness challenges. Despite these issues, Kubo was considered one of the top performers in La Liga, making a significant impact on the field with his creative play and scoring ability.

Last season, he netted seven goals and provided four assists in 41 appearances, often being the focal point of La Real’s attacking strategy.

Reports indicate that Liverpool are in the advanced stages of negotiating Kubo’s contract, which could see him earning around €15 million gross (€7.5 million net) annually on a long-term deal. The excitement surrounding Kubo’s potential move to the Premier League is palpable, as the player himself is reportedly eager to take on this new challenge.

This transfer is also of particular interest to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants hold a 50% sell-on clause for any profit made beyond Kubo’s initial €6 million transfer fee. This clause means Real Madrid would receive €27 million from the deal, leaving Real Sociedad with a net gain of €33 million.

The departure of Kubo will undoubtedly leave a void in Real Sociedad’s lineup, particularly given his role as one of the team’s most dangerous offensive threats. His exceptional one-on-one ability often forced opposing teams to adjust their defensive strategies to contain him.

In response, La Real will need to explore options to fill this gap. Mikel Oyarzabal, a versatile forward, could be deployed more frequently on the wing. Additionally, Arsen Zakharyan and Ander Barrenetxea are potential candidates to step up and secure starting roles in Kubo’s absence.

For Liverpool, acquiring Kubo could provide a significant boost to their attacking options, enhancing their competitiveness in both domestic and European competitions. Kubo’s technical skills, combined with his experience in La Liga, make him a valuable asset for any top-tier club.

As the final details of the transfer are ironed out, fans and analysts alike will be keenly watching how Kubo integrates into Liverpool’s squad and adapts to the demands of the Premier League.
