Premier League club side Liverpool is set to make their first summer signing within less than three days to the end of the summer transfer window after agreeing to a deal with Italian Serie A club side Juventus for forward Federico Chiesa.
The Reds seem to have agreed a few of around £10m for the Italian, with a further £2.5m in add-ons. The 26-year-old traveled to England on Wednesday for a medical, and he is set to become Arne Slot’s first signing as Liverpool manager.
Even though the Reds agreed to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia on Tuesday in a deal worth around £29m on Tuesday, he will not join the team until next season.
Meanwhile, Chiesa played on English soil as Italy played and defeated England at the 2020 Euro Championship Wembley Stadium. Last season, he managed 10 goals in 37 matches for the Old Lady, although his total for Juventus was 32 goals in 131 appearances.
Chiesa’s exit is boosted by the decision of Juventus coach Thiago Motta to leave him out of his first two matchday squads this season. Earlier in May, the player whose contract at Juventus was set to expire in 2025 revealed that he wanted to stay and bring the top club back where it deserves to be, so he discussed a new contract with the director Giuntoli, but it seemingly didn’t work out.
Chiesa signed a four-year deal with the Reds and revealed that he can’t wait to team up with the Anfield side.
“I’m very happy; I can’t wait to become a new Liverpool player. My family and I are so happy, really. Let me say thanks to Juventus and the fans; they have always been special to me. Now it’s time for Liverpool, I’m so happy. I can’t wait!”. He said.
