Liverpool Held by Leeds Amid Super League Protest

Liverpool were denied a chance to move into the top 4 in the Premier League on Monday evening after a late Diego Llorente’s goal ensured Leeds United picked up a point in their fixture against the Reds at the Elland Road.

The Reds are part of the six English Premier League clubs who have agreed to join the breakaway European Super League which still has a lot of uncertainty surrounding it.

Already, protests were held in and out of the Elland Road stadiums against the Super League while the Leeds players wore T-shirts carrying anti-Super League message.

The shirts read ‘Earn it’ next to the Champions League logo and ‘Football is for the fans’ as well as a banner behind one goal had the same message.

While Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp stated his displeasure at the Super League, he was nevertheless disgusted by the action of the host side, Leeds United, who placed same shirts in Liverpool’s dressing room in case they wanted to protest.

The German manager stated that while he was not in support of the league and the club has decided to join, it was not in the capacity of him and his players to decide about the League as they had no say in it.

The visitors took the lead in the first half after a commanding display with Sadio Mane finding the back of the net from a pass by Alexander Arnold.

The goal is Sadio Mane’s first Premier League goal since January which is a run of ten games without goals.

Leeds United equalized late in the second half of the game after pressurizing the reds defense for a long time.

Patrick Bamford hit the crossbar before Llorente scored his first for the club through a header with 3 minutes left. The result leaves Liverpool in 6th position.
