Ever since the joining of Luis Diaz, he has only impressed the Liverpool faithful and Jurgen Klopp. The Colombian was sensational yet again as he helped the Reds complete a two-goal comeback to win 3-2 against Villarreal and book a place in the finals of the Champions League. Diaz’s tough mentality and never say die attitude was on display against Unai Emery’s men as Virgil Van Dijk could not help but praise the youngster’s mentality on the field.
Diaz came on in the second half and changed the rhythm at which the entire Liverpool team played in the second half. It was Mohamed Salah’s ball which Fabinho capitalised on and scored the first goal after Villareal were two-goal up courtesy of Boulaye dia and Frances Coquelin. Once Fabinho scored, the Reds started breathing again as Trent Alexander-Arnold combined with Diaz to thump in the equaliser. Lastly, Sadio Mane added the finishing touches to a fine comeback to march on to the finals of the Champions League.
Speaking in a post match interview with Rio Ferdinand, Virgil Van Dijk lavished praise on Luis Diaz and his impact on the team since he came on the field. He said,” He’s incredible. The way he goes one-against-one, it doesn’t matter who he is facing.”
“He just goes at you, without any fear, if he loses the ball he gets it back as soon as possible and goes again and again. That’s very difficult to defend. We have this momentum at the moment in the team, it’s great and now we go to Paris,” the Dutchman added as the Reds are confident going into the finals where they will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid.
Diaz was surely one of the difference makers as he brought that energy and panache on the field that spurred the other players on and helped them produce a great comeback. The Colombian has hardly taken any time to settle to life at Anfield. He has already made some great contributions for the Reds this season and is a player who will turn out to be a very vital cog for Jurgen Klopp in the coming years.
Klopp will now hope that his team keeps on performing like this and the Colombian also plays like this when he is starting or even from the bench as they aspire to lift the Champions League trophy yet again but they will surely have a tough test in the finals.
