Liverpool clinch title, Manchester City, Palace to face off in FA Cup final

    April 28, 2025

Liverpool delivered a dominant 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday to secure a second title win in the Premier League in five years. The Reds, who last lifted the league title in 2019-20, secured their 20th English top-flight championship with a dazzling display of attacking football that left no doubt about their supremacy this season.

Tottenham had initially taken the lead through Dominic Solanke in the 12th minute, assisted by James Maddison. However, Liverpool responded strongly. Luis Díaz equalized in the 16th minute, before Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo added goals in the 24th and 34th minutes, respectively, giving Liverpool a commanding 3-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah extended Liverpool’s advantage with a goal in the 63rd minute, assisted by Dominik Szoboszlai, who also set up Díaz’s opener. Tottenham’s misery was compounded when Destiny Udogie scored an own goal in the 69th minute, sealing a comprehensive win for the home side and sparking wild celebrations across Anfield.

After the final whistle, Arne Slot, who led the Reds to the title in his debut season, joined the players in celebration in front of the Kop, where flares were set off, and chants of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” echoed around the stadium. He also appreciated Jurgen Klopp for providing a foundation.

“The only thing now is to send my appreciation to Jurgen Klopp. Everyone knows what effort they’ve put in over the last few years. Everyone standing here, you [the fans] should give them [players] a wonderful applause as well. Let’s forget that it’s the second [title] in 35 years, it’s the second in five years.” Slot said.

Liverpool’s latest triumph cements their status among England’s elite, drawing them level with Manchester United on 20 league titles. As celebrations continue, the victory marks not just the end of a successful season, but the start of a new era under Slot, as Liverpool fans dream of continued glory.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will now face Crystal Palace who beat Aston Villa 3-0 on Saturday in the FA Cup final. Manchester City defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday to secure the ticket.
