Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confident on facing Inter Milan in the knockout rounds of the Champions League

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was watching the Champions League knockouts draw live and felt that the officials had to redo the draws. The re-draw saw the Reds draw Inter Milan for the knockouts and Klopp shared his initial thoughts on facing the Nerazzurri.

Liverpool have had a great history at San Siro and the players will be eager to give their fans more to cheer for in their upcoming trip to Milan.

“I had to wait 54 years to play at the San Siro for the first time… and now it’ll be twice in three months, so that’s good news!” said Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds drew RB Salzburg in the Champions League round of 16 in the first time of the draws. But it was called null and void because of a software error. Klopp agreed to the decision of doing it all together again.

“Definitely. I saw [the first draw] live and I thought, ‘You cannot let it stand like this, there’s no chance.’ Definitely, they had to do it again.”

However, Klopp admitted that they got a tougher draw as Inter Milan are at the top of the Serie A table and will be a difficult team to face in the round of 16 in the Champions League. However, the German tactician agreed that he is looking forward to the challenge of facing the Nerazzurri at the San Siro.

Liverpool would have any day like the first draw of playing Salzburg in the Champions League round of 16. But Klopp’s confidence in facing Internazionale will definitely motivate the players. The Reds have been exceptional this season as they are sitting in the second position in the Premier League. They have topped their particular group and are coming to the knockouts with great form.

Liverpool played AC Milan in the group stage and defeated them twice over two legs. The English outfit will be looking for more joy at the San Siro in the upcoming matches against Internazionale.

Liverpool’s star fullback Andrew Robertson who was an unused substitute in their match against AC Milan is also eager to play Internazionale in the knockout rounds of the Champions League. He recently opened up on playing at the San Siro.

“I was on the bench last week [against AC Milan] which at least meant that I could go, but the San Siro is a stadium that I’ve wanted to play in since I became professional,” Robertson opined. “It’s iconic, an amazing stadium. After visiting last week I enjoyed being able to be there and take it in, but hopefully come February then I can be on the pitch and enjoy it even more.”
