24-year-old Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez has said it is an honor for him to join Manchester United after completing his move to the Red Devils on Wednesday.
Martinez has been on the radar of Manchester United all summer, with Erik Ten Hag keen to be joined by the player he coached in the Eredivisie with Ajax.
The seven-cap Argentina international joined Manchester United on a deal worth £57m and a 5-year contract until 2027 with an option to extend for a further year.
Lisandro Martinez joined Ajax from Defensa y Justicia in 2019 and has made over 120 appearances for the Eredivisie giants before joining Manchester United. He also featured in Argentina’s Copa America victory in Brazil last year.
In his first interview as a Manchester United player, Martinez stated that it was an honor to join the club and wants to continue his career trend of playing for some of the most successful teams in the world.
“It’s an honor to join this great football club, I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment, and now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career, and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United,” he said.
Martinez becomes Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United’s third summer signing after Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen scored a free kick as Manchester United beat Wrexham 4-1 in a preseason friendly on Wednesday.
However, Erik Ten Hag has insisted that the club’s Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale after Atletico Madrid denied any plans of bringing the player to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Further reports indicate that Ronaldo is ready to sign a contract extension at Manchester United before embarking on loan to a UEFA Champions League playing side.
